Support to social ventures:
- Social Franchises for rural India: helped connect investors to a social enterprise that creates
access to IT through microentrepreneur-owned telecenters in rural India.
- Debit Cards and global remittances for ‘unbanked’ workers: helped launch the company,
and
led its marketing, which resulted in contracts with leading health organizations and major corporations (such as Starbucks.)
- Global educational nonprofit/Nepal: provided a blueprint for establishing a for-profit arm
through which to generate revenue; prepared a financing plan for accessing new sources of
grants, investments & loans.
- Partnership between a US cosmetics company and forestry nonprofit: developed an
emissions offset scheme for the company that was to be executed by the nonprofit,
supported by company volunteers.
Support to international organizations, nonprofits & foundations:
- Rockefeller Foundation: Conducted study on best practices and successful strategies of
global human rights and environmental organizations.
- Foundation for social development/Dominican Republic: assessed health and social
equity programs and recommended strategies to enhance effectiveness and impact, which
were later implemented.
- World Bank/Nigeria: Built capacity of state and local governments in client countries.
Prepared financing guidelines for project to improve access to financial capital.
- World Bank/Guyana: Developed strategies for strengthening public management and
financing of the National AIDS Control Program in Guyana. Reported to the Minster for Health
as part of a multi-sector team. Regional development projects were subsequently introduced,
as proposed.
- UN Humanitarian Affairs: Assisted client governments to develop local management and
financing capacity. The UN agreed to the financing mechanisms that were presented in my
proposals.
- UN Development Program: Conducted strategic evaluation of $40 million UN Humanitarian
response program. Led evaluation teams to Sri Lanka, Moldova and Nicaragua. The report
was presented to the UN Executive Committee.
SociaLab in Italy:
SociaLab advised Italy’s businesses – including FIAT and Telecom Italia, Italy’s largest
companies – regarding best practice on environmental sustainability. SociaLab was a
founding partner in ‘OSIF’ (a multi-stakeholder forum on sustainable business) along with Sustainable Asset Management (Zurich), Europe’s leading ‘socially responsible’ investment company, and LUISS University (Rome) which is globally recognized on business ethics;
labor associations, and NGOs such as WWF were involved as well.
